To those new to our community, may I offer a warm welcome to one of Nebraska’s most rapidly growing areas --- Gretna, Nebraska. 

Gretna is truly a community of rich history. Originally spurred by the Burlington Northern Railroad, Gretna was founded in 1886 on 80 acres purchased from the Lincoln Land Company for the sum of $560. Gretna's growth now has been spurred by its location near Interstate 80, off of Highway 370 and 6/31.

Located just ten miles outside of Omaha, Gretna is a quiet community of established families, coupled with those new to the area. Many have moved to Gretna for its close proximity to Omaha and Lincoln, its small town atmosphere, and its exceptional school district. Gretna has gained national recognition and a reputation for providing fine educational opportunities. Those opportunities are complemented by honors in academic accreditation, high graduation rates, and a disciplined learning environment. Our local chamber, the Gretna Area Chamber of Commerce, is supported by a strong business community that offers financial and real estate services, a grocery, pharmacy, day cares, landscaping and florist, hair care and spa, fitness center, automotive dealer and repair, as well as a variety of shops at Nebraska Crossing Mall. Gretna also has an assisted living facility, several eating establishments, and an active senior center. Medical services include family physicians, dental care, chiropractic and physical therapy services, along with veterinary care for the family pet. Churches gather weekly for services at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Gretna United Methodist Church, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Gretna Community Church, the Gretna Baptist Church, Grace Presbyterian, Acts II Church and Journey Church.  Soon to come is the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Our city offers a municipal pool, the Gretna Public Library (www.gretnapubliclibrary.org) and recreational facilities at several parks. Youth athletic leagues, a volunteer fire and rescue department and a variety of other organizations serve as testament to the small town values our residents treasure.
